Metqal Qinawi – Saeedi & Traditional Songs
Metqal was brought up on the customs of the Fellahin. The themes he evokes are pastoral and rural visions and love, and his compositions, written from the age of nine onwards, were received with enthusiasm, enabling him to move to Cairo where he was met with great success and was in constant demand to play at celebrations and weddings. His many recordings, disseminated and rescued in the ’70s and ’80s on multiple cassettes, made Metqal into a key reference in Egyptian music. This album features traditional Saeedi music that has become part of Egypt’s musical fabric.
